Does Microsoft tell you when they are going to fix a bug in Office? Or Adobe in Photoshop? Or Apple in OSX?
Corporate policies are easiest to implement when they are consistent: No comments on future releases. Period. That's nice and clean - no fudge factor to let things leak.
What they can say is 'we are aware of it, and working on a fix'. That's different, and that's what they've said. I get frustrated sometimes too (more with Apple and Adobe than VMWare actually - Apple won't even acknowledge that they are working on something).
FWIW, The primary competition is not a US company.
