When the email notifications hang the AlertConditionsSatisfiedListener thread will backup and because of this the entire alerting subsystem backs up.
The result is that hyperic alerts may not fire until hours after they were supposed to.
to fix:
1) Emails should be sent asynchronously from the AlertConditionsSatisfiedListener thread to prevent this.
2) There should be a timeout when sending emails
