Sorry I don't have an answer for you however I just wanted to report it's working as it should for me, it initially hides however when I mouse over to it, it appears.
Is the same behavior you're experiencing happening no matter where you position it, Top, Left, Bottom and or Right,?
Do you have anything installed on the Host that might be interfering, like 3rd party utilities to change UI elements of OS X?
