I think I have to accept the explanation which is unacceptable and confusing.
I can appreciate you finding the lack of copy and paste with Shared VM's unacceptable however there is absolutely nothing whatsoever confusing about it as the documentation is clearly written and explicitly states that "You cannot enable or disable the copy and paste feature for a shared or remote virtual machine". So what is confusing about it?
But I really think those guys will solve this problem.
BTW version 10 of VMware Workstation was released yesterday and its documentation states the exact same thing albeit on a different page. So even with the latest release this remains the same and will probably stay that way for the version 10.x release. So maybe a year of so from now in version 11 things may be different. We'll just have to wait and see.
